Wooden Plantation Shutters
Wooden plantation shutters can be found in many homes across Europe, particularly Italy and France but are really more widespread across the southern states of America where they were fitted in cotton plantations, which is where they get their name.
They are now fast becoming the number one choice, for home owners and interior designers alike, when it
comes to window coverings in the UK. Nothing can transform an otherwise dull and lifeless window into a beautiful and stylish focal point in your home like shutters.
Our Shutter Range
The shutters we supply and install at Shutter Master are made from Larch, Basswood and Cedarwood which are extremely stable and very unlikely to twist or warp.
The Larchwood range is our mid priced material; they have a slightly coarse grain which makes them perfect for stained and varnished finishes. They can also be painted, of course, with any one of our standard paint colours.
The Basswood range is one of our top range materials. The grain structure is very fine and uniform and is available in an even wider choice of stained and painted finishes, including colour matching. The structure of Basswood shutter panels is enhanced by using Mortis and Tenon joints to increase its overall strength.
The Cedarwood range is our highest grade timber, an extremely beautiful material with a fine grain structure and the pungent smell of natural cedar. This is far too good a material to have it painted and is usually treated with an oiled finish to preserve its natural beauty.
Why Are Wooden Plantation Shutters So Popular?
There are many reasons for this other than the fact that they look so good. For one, they are very versatile. They come in a variety of styles that offer the homeowner not only excellent light control but differing levels of privacy.
Secondly, they have very good insulation properties. Many of the homes we install the shutters in have old, draughty sash windows which allow heat to escape and in the end increase your heating bills. With a layer of timber in the form of a wooden shutter installed on your window will prevent this, allowing you to turn the thermostat down a couple of degrees and save some of your hard earned money. That’s never a bad thing, is it?
A third reason that many property owners are choosing shutters is the security aspect, a feature which is often overlooked. Another barrier across the window will deter the vast majority of would be intruders. You don’t get that with blinds and curtains.
