Shutters and a blind, working together

A blackout blind sits behind the shutter panels to provide additional control over unwanted light. It can be especially useful in bedrooms or rooms used for daytime rest.

Manual operation across our ranges

Blackout options are available with Hardwood, Hardwood ABS, Premium Hardwood and both Composite ranges, subject to the opening size, frame and fitting requirements. We supply manually operated products.

Designed around your windows

We will explain how the blind operates and discuss expected light reduction for your particular opening. The blackout blind carries a two-year warranty; the shutter warranty depends on its material.

Planning your shutter design

A manual blackout blind behind the shutters adds another layer of light control. It is a useful option for bedrooms where ordinary louvred shutters alone may not provide the desired darkness.

The combined system needs suitable space and a compatible frame. We check this at consultation and explain how to operate both layers. Blackout blinds carry a two-year warranty; shutter warranties depend on the material.

Your questions, answered

What makes these different from ordinary shutters?

A manually operated blackout blind sits behind the shutter panels. The shutters provide adjustable privacy and daylight control; the blind adds light reduction when needed. We explain the two layers and how to use them during fitting.

Which materials can include the blind?

Blackout options are available across our Hardwood, Hardwood ABS, Premium Hardwood and Composite ranges, subject to the opening and fitting requirements. The blind has a two-year warranty; the shutter warranty depends on the material.

Can you guarantee that no light will enter?

We assess the complete opening and explain the expected result. Edges and fitting conditions matter, so we do not promise a completely light-free room without discussing the particular installation.

More questions about your shutters

How much light do blackout shutters block?

Ordinary louvred shutters reduce light when closed, but they are not a complete blackout covering: light can enter around the panels and between louvres. Our blackout option combines shutters with a manually operated blackout blind behind them for stronger light reduction. We assess the opening and explain the expected result rather than promise a completely light-free room.

Will shutters make my room dark during the day?

You control the light by tilting the louvres or opening the panels. Frames and louvres occupy part of the opening, so some daylight is reduced even with the louvres open. Café-style shutters leave the upper window uncovered; tier-on-tier shutters allow the upper panels to open separately. We help you balance daylight and privacy.
